In other states after the Indian state of Gujarat, there have been other alleged incidents of discrimination against Muslim patients by hospitals and medical staff on the basis of their religion.
The latest case is that of Jamshedpur, an industrial town in the state of Jharkhand, where a 30-year-old Muslim woman alleged that she had been abused and abused in a local government hospital.
He claims that if the hospital staff had not abused him and treated him properly, his child would not have died.
In a letter to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Rizwana alleged that on April 16, a member of the staff of a local government hospital "insulted me by linking me to (my) name and religion and told me that blood It has fallen on the ground, clean it, wherever it is treated, it spreads corona. '
"I was slow to clean up my blood that had fallen to the ground because I was not well," he wrote. My whole body was shaking, meanwhile this woman (staff member) took off her slippers and beat me badly. I was shocked. "
Rizawana's husband Mohammad Shamim told me over the phone from Jamshedpur that his wife was still in shock due to the loss of the child and the humiliating treatment.
"We want full justice in this case so that no such incident ever happens to anyone again," he said.
Rizwana also wrote in her letter that "I can claim that if the hospital staff had examined me seriously, our baby would not have died in my womb."
The Jamshedpur district administration formed a committee on the evening of April 18 to investigate the matter, which included a deputy superintendent of the hospital, an executive magistrate of the district administration and a police officer from the concerned police station (Sakchi).
Meanwhile, the district police took notice of the matter and on April 19 registered a case against the hospital owner, Dr. Amit Jain.
Meerut Superintendent of Police (Rural) Avinash Pandey told me over the phone that Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code against Dr. Jain (violation of restraining order), 295 (insult to religion or belief) and sub-section three of 505 (any community) A case has been registered against him and an investigation is underway.
"We have summoned him in this regard and all the evidence is being collected," he said.
Throughout the case, we called Dr. Jane several times to find out her position, but she did not respond.
