Federal Planning Minister Asad Omar says it has become clear that the corona virus has not been as deadly in our region, including Pakistan and India, as in Europe and the United States.
Giving a briefing at the National Command and Operations Center, Federal Minister Asad Omar said that the deaths started from one to two in the middle of March, the daily average of deaths in the country has increased to 24 in the last six days.
He said the steps needed to reduce deaths from the corona virus to zero would be fatal to economic life.
Asad Omar said that up to 18 million people are estimated to be unemployed in the country, the current restrictions will be applicable till May 9, the strategy after May 9 will be decided by the National Coordinating Committee.
He said that the mortality rate in Pakistan is 2 per 1 million population, the effect of BCG vaccine and weather can be attributed to the reduction in mortality.
The Federal Minister for Planning said that an average of 4,800 people are killed in traffic accidents in Pakistan every month and the monthly revenue of FBR has been reduced by Rs. 119 billion.
He added that the country needs 1,400 ventilators for corona patients, with an average of 35 patients on ventilators, and the death toll is expected to rise in May.
Asad Umar also said that there are fears that 1 million small enterprises in Pakistan will be shut down forever due to the lockdown caused by the corona virus.
